Resintel’s methodology reflects real and independent spot market pricing daily, primarily based on real transactions for various grades of commodity resins.

Our ResINdex prices are predominantly composed of confirmed spot resin market transactions by resellers, including but not limited to The Plastics Exchange and other resin trading houses serving the foundation of our published prices.

Resintel takes all appropriate steps to confirm and validate all transactions with relevant parties and their counterparties to ensure accurate market data.

Unlike many competitors, we are not just observers of the industry; we are active independent market participants, buying and selling plastics, which gives us a unique perspective and understanding of the market dynamics.

Our market sentiment is mainly derived from Resintel’s principals who have bought and sold billions of pounds for over 23 years and are daily market participants. This direct sourcing provides us with a unique and highly accurate perspective on the market, which we believe is more reliable than the third party interviews and models used by other firms. Acting as independent resellers, with no formal relationship with any suppliers, allows true independence and the ability to report how things are without concern for upsetting supply channels.

Resintel leverages decades of trading experience and customer feedback while implementing judgment where possible, avoiding including intercompany transactions and outlier deals not conforming to current market conditions or pricing.

Resintel further makes other considerations based on market data and changing dynamics including but not limited to:

• Market participant interviews

• Plant maintenance schedules

• Production and feedstock costs, operational issues or outages

• Weather related impacts

• Macroeconomic factors

• Regional international pricing

Deal volumes vary from full truckloads to large volume export transactions packaged in bulk, bags, gaylord boxes or other form such as railcars. 

Any unconfirmed or stand-alone, off-the-market, bids or offers may be disregarded from consideration for reporting purposes. Resintel will exercise judgment for scenarios where bids, offers, and transactions are not confirmed or where information is only partially available.
