A Motiva Enterprise TCEQ report showed a 9 hour 45 minute flare from the light olefins unit (LOU) Ethylene production line.
According to the TCEQ filing, the unit faced a process upset leading to a flare releasing a significant amount of Ethylene, Carbon Monoxide and lower volumes of other chemicals.
Operations personnel took immediate action to stabilize the process unit, reduce emissions and stop the flaring event by rerouting the LOU flare for destruction.
According to Resintel’s supply / demand database, total annual Ethylene production at the site nearly reaches 1.7 billion lbs/year.
